Create Your Own Website

Create Your Own Website

The internet is an enormous place. The majority of searches on Google will yield millions of results covering numerous pages within Google. Everyday hundreds of sites are added to the web. It is now easier than ever to make your voice heard in some way or another. Certainly Facebook, Twitter, and even MySpace had made it easy to connect with complete strangers on the internet. Yet, it is also extremely easy to connect with others through a personal website. Chances are, you have at least thought about creating your own website. You may even be reading this article because you have already decided to create a website. Let me pose a few questions that are important to answer before you take the next step.

Why?

Why do you want a website? As has already been mentioned, there is already plenty of information and websites across the internet. Adding one more just for the sake of having a site doesn't seem very wise. Hopefully you have a purpose. Regardless, you need to give this question some thought. Do you want to start a blog? If so, why? Are you planning to create a website to allow family and friends to connect and see pictures of the family? If so, how is it different than Facebook? Are you going to start an e-commerce site? Is your purpose to create a webpage for your already existing business? You need to consider why you want a website.

Who?

Who is your target audience? You may have somewhat answered this question with your response to the previous question, but think of a thorough answer. Your audience is important as we will notice in the following questions. Know who you want to reach and understand a little about them. Make sure your target audience fits with the purpose of your website.

What?

What is your content going to be? If you are writing a blog, what are you going to write about? What do you know that no one else knows? What makes you qualified to write about this subject matter? If you are starting an e-commerce site, what are you going to sell? Where are you going to get the product? How much profit are you able to make? Think through the "what" before creating the website.

How?

How are you going to achieve your goals? How are you going to create your site? Will you use WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, write your own code, or pay someone to create your site? How will you host your site? How will you drive traffic to your site? How will you use Social Media for site promotion?

Creating a website is a relatively easy process. Be careful that you don't take the process too lightly. The internet doesn't need another pointless voice. Don't let this discourage you either. If you have something legitimate to say, sell, or promote...do it. Answer these questions carefully, decide how you are going to go about the process, create your site, and keep it up!
