Win 40,000 tokens - Solve the riddle - SmallWorlds Forum

Here comes the longest post I've ever composed...

First step is setting up the order of housing.

Quote:

Honesty lives in the first house
Honesty lives next to the blue house
Therefore, the blue house is second

Quote:

The green house is on the left of the white house
Since the green and white house must be neighbors, neither can be the first house. And since we know that the green house must be on the left of the white house, the green house is either third or fourth.

Quote:

The person living in the centre of the house drinks milk
The green homeowner drinks coffee
The green house cannot be the center house, because it drinks coffee. We now know that the green house must be fourth. That also means that the white house is last.

Quote:

Shelley lives in the red house
Since we already know that Honesty lives in the first house, the first house therefore must be yellow (the only color left). That means that the red house is third.

Now the order of houses is as follows: Y B R G W

Now let's start filling in the obvious:

Quote:

Shelley lives in the red house
The green homeowner drinks coffee
The owner of the yellow house smoked Dunhill
Honesty lives in the first house
The person living in the centre of the house drinks milk
Yellow:
Honesty
Dunhill

Blue:

Red:
Shelley
Milk

Green:
Coffee

White:

If we look closer, we will see that since

Quote:

The person who keeps the horse lives next to the person who smokes Dunhill
we know that the blue house has the horse.

Since

Quote:

The person who smokes blend has a neighbour who drinks water.
we know that either blue or red must smoke blend because blue and yellow are the only possible options to drink water. By trial and error, we can see that blue must smoke the blend, and therefore yellow drinks water.

Quote:

The owner who smokes Bluemaster drinks beer.
Since white is the only house without either a cigar or a drink at this point, white must smoke bluemaster and drink beer.

So here's what we have so far:

Yellow:
Honesty
Water
Dunhill

Blue:
Blend
Horse

Red:
Shelley
Milk

Green:
Coffee

White:
Bluemaster
Beer

The blue house is the only spot left for a drink, so it must drink tea and therefore is owned by ToddOnly red and green have a cigar spot open, but since Shelley already lives in the red house, Kent must live in the green house and smoke prince.

Quote:

The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.
Since there is now only one spot left for Pall Mall, we can deduct that the last cigar belongs to the red house:

Yellow:
Honesty
Water
Dunhill

Blue:
Todd
Tea
Blend
Horse

Red:
Shelley
Milk
Pall Mall
Birds

Green:
Kent
Coffee
Prince

White:
Bluemaster
Beer

The white house is now the only one without an owner, so it must be Lucy and also must have dogs

Quote:

The person who smokes blend lives next to the one who keeps cats.
Since blue smokes blend and red already has birds, process of elimination tells us that yellow must have the cats.

Finally, everything is filled in and the only option for the fish is at the green house with Kent.

Here are the final results:

1st house - Yellow:
Honesty
Water
Dunhill
Cats

2nd house - Blue:
Todd
Tea
Blend
Horse

3rd house - Red:
Shelley
Milk
Pall Mall
Birds

4th house - Green
Kent
Coffee
Prince
Fish

5th house - White:
Lucy
Beer
Bluemaster
Dogs
